Nature and Theory of the Sky by Manolo Campoamor
Opening February 1, 2018 – 8:00 p.m.
Collage is a technique based on cutting and pasting fragments of paper.
This is how Matisse, Rauschenberg and, of course, Picasso did it.
After seeing mountains of works by these authors over the years, I discovered that Matisse held papers together by means of sewing pins and that Rauschenberg threw selected pieces of paper onto his table leaving the composition to chance.
I have often thought about how to hold and place the elements within my work and I have chosen to leave the paper fragments freely within the frame.
Most of the pieces in this exhibition are moveable or variable detached compositions and the paper fragments that form them are united only by the space that they occupy.
if they’re not glued together, perhaps they’re not “collages”.
